Training

I have been involved in designing, developing and delivering training for over twenty years and understand what makes an effective learning opportunity and how to construct and deliver training to facilitate and promote learning. My experience includes developing and delivering face-to-face learning, e-learning and blended learning packages.

I have experience of creating training packages for use by other trainers and of preparing and delivering ‘train the trainer’ courses and programmes. As well as experience of formal learning approaches, I also have experience of designing and delivering learning networks, seminars, and other learning opportunities including action learning sets and approaches based on inquiry and action research.

1. Approach to learning

I am committed to developing learning materials and programmes which:

  • Fully engage the learner through clarity and commitment
  • Deliver information in specifically adapted formats
  • Apply learning by using realistic exercises and tailored case studies
  • Integrate learning with work based experience and understanding
  • Ensure active engagement and full participation by the learner
  • Use cycles of action and reflection to identify and reinforce the learning from activities and case studies
  • Use positive reinforcement to meet the needs of adult learners who may not have engaged in formal learning for some time, or who may have negative memories and experiences of their education
  • Recognise the different starting points of individuals
  • Develop learners’ skills as change agents, so that they can apply their learning actively and make a real difference in their workplace as a result of the training

2. Examples of training experience

  • I co-developed the training course ‘Business and Human Rights in Practice’. This intensive course was delivered eight times in the UK and in an adapted form twice in India. Participants included blue chip companies, senior academics and NGOs.
  • I developed a training programme for a major international confectionary company, providing Quality Assurance and Human Resources staff on ethical sourcing and a related programme for Buyers. Both programmes used e-learning, with an introductory face-to-face workshop.
  • I have developed a number of on-line training modules both as stand alone training activities and as part of blended training programmes including a wide variety of management development courses.
